Outreach exhibition: Roots, tubers and bananas at a Brussels community center's new year celebration

Our exhibition on roots, tubers and bananas was displayed during two New Year’s events organised by the Gemeenschapscentrum Koekelberg, a community center in the middle of Brussels.

We had been working together on a children’s activity on tropical food. This inspired the community centre to invite us, our exhibition and the African Frietkot for their New Year’s events on 12th and 13th January. This gave us the possibility to bring our exhibition to a completely new audience outside of the Garden.  In addition, it was an important way to build our relationship with certain target groups, since the community center supports and works with several multicultural organisations.

What was achieved?

Several hundred people came to look and taste. We talked with them about food and food security, about BigPicnic and about our botanic garden. We also gathered contact information from some interested organisations.

Next, in collaboration with Gemeenschapscentrum Koekelberg and The Foodbridge, we will organize a food talk on 1st of July, at the same location.
